During my last trip to Hong Kong and Taiwan, I tried some interesting and yummy foods so here we go!
These are street food dishes. They are not the usual snacks you see along the streets, rather they are casual restaurants at heartland areas. Tourists may find it especially hard to search for such restaurants because they may not be located at the main roads. However, they serve very authentic signature Hong Kong and Teochew dishes. Some of the more popular dishes would be sweet and sour pork, pig internals (sounds disgusting but my parents say its good), Mantis Shrimps (also known as the 'pissing shrimp' in cantonese!), fish etc. All the dishes have a very strong taste and somehow beer accompanies well with them.
These are common snacks found along the streets of Hong Kong. They are cheap yet extremely extremely delicious. They are common among locals and tourists enjoy them too. My favorite snack would be the cheung fun (the long white thingy in the picture below). They are smooth and with peanut butter and sweet sauce, they taste good. It's simple and are eaten with the toothpicks. This is unique to Hong Kong and will always be. Some will add in siew mai, fish balls or pigskin too complement their cheung fun.
Hong Kong desserts are another something everyone should try. There are a variety of desserts ranging from cold to hot and sweet to sour. There are a couple of desserts that are my favorites. I will write more about HK desserts in upcoming posts.
Australian Milk Factory.
They serve one of the best set meals. Picture below is the scrambled egg toast, ham macaroni and ice milk tea. The one on the right is the steamed egg white (HK dessert style). The scrambled eggs are very smooth and soft. It goes well with the macaroni. Something that I will not be bored eating all day. However, due to its high popularity, there is always a long queue for this shop and you are expected to eat quickly (the overall vibe is like rushing people to finish their meals) which is not good news for me because I cannot eat that quickly with braces, especially with my rubber bands. Also not a great place to chit chat with your friends because you will definitely be rushed. Nonetheless, the food is so yummy I don't mind the horrible ambiance and bad service.
Below are the food I've tried in Taiwan. I could not recall what I ate exactly since I was there for two times only. So this shall be a picture montage!
I don't like vegetables, but the cabbage there is so fresh, the leaves are actually sweet.
